Laxachusetts Youth Teams Recap of LI Lax Fest

LI Lax Fest Recap

Great Job by ALL Teams / Players

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Lax Fans,
As we all witnessed this past weekend, the lacrosse on Long Island is fantastic ! . It is not much different compared to traveling to Canada to take on the best hockey players from North of the border.
I was very fortunate to watch everyone of our teams play at least 2 games over the weekend and I could not be more proud of the effort and skill our boys displayed. It is great to see our players continue to improve every game and once again, we continue to improve in the lax iq area's with some great decision making on both ends of the field.
Wanted to send out a quick recap of the weekend letting everyone know how we did as a program and also the record of each team.
3rd Grade Team:
Coach Chuck Monturio
Coach Mike Lonergan
Asst Coach Nick Marrocco
Just a great group of young talented players that do not know the word quit.
Made it to the Semi Finals and faced Team 91's year round club team that was maybe the most skilled group of 9 yr olds I have ever seen. This 91 team plays together year round and practices 3-4 days a week.
Best quote from our kids after the loss in the Semi Finals "I cant wait to play that Team 91 again, we are gonna beat those guys"
Ended with a 2-3 record.
4th Grade Green Team:
Coach Mike Brazis
Coach Craig Flynn
Asst Coach Ryan Goodall
It is very impressive to have a skilled group of 4th graders like this team. It is even more impressive when you have 2 skilled 4th grade teams. The 4th Grade Green team made it to the Championship Game and named Co Champs with the Laxachusetts 4th Grade White Team.
One of more impressive games I saw from this group was the victory over the FLG program.
Ended with a 5-0 record.
4th Grade White Team:
Coach Rich LeBlanc
Coach Grant Marston
Asst Coach Billy Breen
Like I said above, we are very fortunate to have so many talented players in this class. The White Team also undefeated and making it to the Championship Game and named
Co Champs with the Laxachusetts 4th Grade Green Team. A strong victory over Long Island Express Lacrosse was one of my favorites of this group.
Ended with a 5-0 record.
5th Grade Black Team:
Coach Brendan Glass
Asst Coach CJ Santora
Asst Coach Andrew Buron
It is never easy when you have to face the reigning Champs in the first game of the tourney and first game of the summer. The Igloo 5th grade team is considered the top 5th grade team in Long Island and they lived up to the reputation. We then battled Long Island Express in the next game (which was a terrific game to watch and we lost a heart breaker by 1)
Black team finished strong on Sunday with 2 big wins
Ended with 2-2 record.
5th Grade Green Team:
Coach Rob Falvey
Asst Coach Jay Lenaghan
The coaches had these boys ready and jumped out to a 10-1 lead over Choas from Texas to open the tourney. We then could not get things going in game 2 vs a strong Legacy team. The team bounced back on Sunday going 2-0.
Ended with a 3-1 record.
5th Grade White Team:
Coach Chris Gelinas
Asst Coach Nico Panepinto
I watched a great game on Saturday as this team had a great win over Team 91 Lacrosse. Finished Saturday with a tie as the NS Snipers snuck one in to tie game at the horn.
Ended with a 2-1-1 record.
6th Grade Black Team:
Coach Dennis Lynch
Asst Coach Tucker Ciessau
This team opened up against Team 91 and we out shot them 3-1 and possessed the ball for about 70% of the game but had a hard time getting past the zone defense they were running (I have no idea why youth teams run a zone defense either???) Bounced back with a strong win over Team Superstar from CT.
2 tough 1 goal losses on Sunday against Legacy Titans and Long Island Express.
Ended with 1-3 record.
6th Grade Green Team:
Coach Rob McCarthy
Asst Coach Peter Riccuiti
A strong performance on Saturday over Lizard Elite and also Legacy Ravage and then a fantastic game against a great Garden City team that ended in a 5-5 tie.
This team missed the Semi finals by 1 point.
Ended with a 3-0-1 record.
6th Grade White Team:
Coach Scott Hickey
Asst Coach Dan Delaney
Another strong day for our 6th grade group as this team also went 2-0 on Saturday defeating Millon Force and also Team 91 Lacrosse. Two big wins (especially when we beat 91 Lacrosse which is always fun).
Strong day Sunday but dropped 1 game which kept this team out of the semi finals.
Ended with a 3-1 record.
7th Grade Black Team:
Coach Jeff Lang
Coach Dan Chouinard
Asst Coach Brendan Altieri
Great performance by this team and if you were already gone on Sunday, one of the most talked games of the weekend when our team took on the Team 91 Crush team at 434pm on Sunday.
At the halfway point of the game, there was an estimated 200 people watching the game as the entire field was surrounded by fans. Incredibly intense atmosphere even in the warm up when both teams were jockeying for which end they would defend. Good guys won 7-4. Team went 4-0 and went onto the Semi Finals and we lost by 2 to the Long Island Express.
Ended with a 4-1 record.
7th Grade Yellow Team:
Coach John Henesey
Asst Coach JB Marston
This team started out great on Saturday with a win over Team Superstar from CT and had a strong game against Team 91 ending Saturday with a 1-1 record. Sunday the team just seemed to lack energy and excitement dropping both games. At times looked great as expected but could not put it together for long periods of time. A little more intensity from this group and they will back on track.
Ended with a 1-3 record.
7th Grade Green Team:
Coach Chris Weber
Asst Coach Ian Yanulis
Opened up with a strong win over Rising Stars 5-1. Then had a battle with the LI Express team that ended with a 5-5 tie. Coach Weber had this team flying.
Lost a heart breaker 7-6 on Sunday.
Ended with a 2-1-1 record.
7th Grade White Team:
Coach Daryl Goodwin
Asst Coach John Higgins
Asst Coach James Higgins
Strong performance by this team on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday wins included Million Force and also Turf Island. I was able to catch both of these games and the team looking great.
Sunday the team kept it going with 2 more wins over LI Express and Chaos team from Texas.
A win in the Semi Finals and played in the Championship Game and lost heart breaker to a Braveheart. (Rule for a tie in semi finals and finals, game goes to a braveheart). Congrats to making it to the Championship.
Ended with a 5-1 record.
8th Grade Black Team:
Coach Dan Chouinard
Asst Coach Cam Joyce
Asst Coach Jason Lee
The team opened up with a flurry of goals from the Attack vs House of Sports LC. We then had a defensive battle with the Long Island Express team and lost a tough hard fought game 2-1 with LIE scoring with under 30 seconds left to get the win.
Guys put the loss behind them on Sunday and dominated both Wantagh and 2 Knights NJ. The team missed the Semi Finals by a point.
Ended with a 3-1 record.
8th Grade Yellow Team:
Coach Joe Donovan
Asst Coach Tommy Connelly
Asst Coach Joe Kearny
Team opened up with a dominating performance over Warrior Elite program (MA). Very exciting and fast play by our guys. Next game we faced a great Annapolis MD Hawks program. They were big, athletic and skilled and although we fought hard, the difference in the game was they finished their scoring opportunities and we did not. Great effort by our boys though.
Sunday opened up with a big win over RVC and lost a tough one to FLG (NY).
Ended with a 2-2 record.
8th Grade Green Team:
Coach Mulroney
Asst Coach Dan Czerkawski
Asst Coach Liam Driscoll
The team took no prisoners on Saturday with 2 big wins over LI Vipers and also LI Express .Sunday was more of the game with 2 big wins over 2 more LI Clubs. The team went into the Semi Finals and lost a close game by 1 goal with the opposing team scoring with about 8 seconds left in the Semi Final Game. Overall terrific effort by the group.
Ended with a 4-1 record.
8th Grade White Team:
Coach Crandon Leahy
Coach Paul Chaisson
Asst Coach Keison Cunningham
Much like the Green team, The White team also dominated on Saturday with 2 great wins over LI Jesters and CT Gators. Sunday the team kept the petal to the metal and rolled over Team NY and Team 91 Lacrosse to make it into the Semi Finals. Semi Final game ended in a tie and went to a braveheart and for the 2nd time over the weekend, we lost in a Braveheart. Another outstanding job by the players and great effort.
Ended with a 4-1 record.
As you can see from the quick recaps above, our boys/teams played incredibly well in Long Island and proudly represented the best Massachusetts has to offer (and NH and RI as we have some players from those States as well and dont want to exclude anyone).
The overall record on the weekend as a program finished at:
51 Wins
22 Losses
2 Ties
4th Grade Champions (Green and White Co Champs)
Semi Finalists (3rd grade team, 7th grade black, 8th grade green, 8th grade white)
Championship Game Runner Up (7th grade white)
Keep the sticks in your hands this week. Wall Ball and Shooting. Getting better everyday. If you are not, someone else is.
GO BOSTON !!!!
